The Southern California Half Marathon & 5K evolved from the success that Woodbridge High School enjoyed in the renowned Woodbridge High School Cross Country Classic.  The Half Marathon & 5K are hosted to benefit Woodbridge High School athletics as well as the other Irvine schools whose runners participate in the race.

The Half Marathon has grown substantially over the last sixteen years.  There were about 950 runners in the first year of the Half Marathon.  Last year around 6,200 runners participated in what has become a premier running event in Southern California.

The race has earned the honor of being a warm-up race for the L.A. Marathon, the O.C. Marathon, and others… and, has developed a partnership with Students Run LA to give “at risk” students from Southern California the opportunity to train and complete the L.A. Marathon.

The race has enjoyed the continuous support of various parts of the Irvine Community: Einstein’s Bagels, Albertson’s markets, FM 100.3 The Sound, Niagara Water, BJ’s Restaurant, Chili’s, Citi Corp, and Emergen-C to name a few.
